"Feminism" - A smokescreen used to brainwash males into believing that females are in charge, and above males.
"Political Correctness" - The end of American sincerity, and the birth of censorship & social hypocrisy on a mass scale.

I'm looking forward to this. I know the writers did a lot of research to make it as accurate as possible.

Unfortunately I'm like BBS without cable, so I'll have to wait for the illegal download ;)

I can tell you guys that about a year ago I was given this script and asked for my thoughts.
Its very entertaining but I dont think its going to pass the grade for a history report.
It's all Hollywood fluff of what really happend.
If I didnt think it would get me in trouble, I would post the script for your review.
I'll give you one detail they seem to not care about.
When the show takes place, Luciano is around 19 yrs old.
He is introduced in a meeting as Lucky and at this time, that was not a name that he went by.
He wasnt given that monicor till after he was left for dead by Maranzano in 1929.
Also Al Capone is brought in the picture with more importance than he actually had at the time.
He was brought to Chicago to protect Johnny Torrio.
So as you will see, they take many liberties.
All this being said. Im sure it will still be a hit.

do you think that they did this, since Capone is the best known mobster in history? lets face it, if you ask the average person that doesnt know about organized crime, to name a gangster/mobster, they will probably name Capone, before they do Luciano. also i was wonderin, are Siegel or Lansky characters in the script?

I have to say that I also met with a few of the writers and have seen the script and I'm with White Squid. It will be a great show and a hit but there will be some creative licensing applied.

Two of the writers were fairly knowledgeable. One of them did not know who Sal Maranzano was and I had to spell it and pronounce it for him.

Let's hope it is accurate "enough" to do the subject matter justice.

When I gave my notes to the producers and the reply I got back was that Terrence Winter didn't have an fix nor did he care.
I think if you're going to make a movie or tv show about real people and are passing the show off as
factual then you have an obligation to be as accurate as possible. I do understand the need to create some dialog for entertainment but you must keep the record as straight as possible.

Yes Ben, I think they brought Capone in because there isnt any bigger face more known than Scareface Al Capone.

Secondly, as for the script I read (pilot) there was no mention of Ben Siegel.

Most things mob related are good - America craves a good mob story or even an average - Heck even the movie MOBSTERS (Patrick Dempsey - Richard Grieco - Costas Mandylor - Christian Slater) did okay - HA HA HA - 20 million bucks - 6 million bucks the first weekend - HA HA HA - Some WHACK JOB sent me to BOX OFFICE MOJO for movie information - : )

I am looking forward to Boardwalk Empire - Love the genre and love the era - My kind of series!

the Makin of Boardwalk Empire 1 Year, 4 Months ago
heres three trailers for the show.....

the Makin of Boardwalk Empire

i love the classy wardrobe that they are usin in this series. Mr. Wahlberg is also involved with this series, so maybe one day he could play Luciano in a movie...since he seems to be interested in the organized crime genre... Siegel will probably never be in this series, since in 1920 Siegel was only 14, at the time... but who knows, maybe the producers may surprise us in the future...

i just hope that this series isnt watered down, in violence or profanity... i want it to be graphically violent (when it has to be), and very profane in language... afterall these characters were mobsters and street thugs... so i dont expect the characters from this series, to be speakin like they hold PhDs in English from Harvard or Princeton...

A good friend of mine works at Paramount in LA and told me that the whole industry was very nervous and did not want to try and produce a Mafia series because nothing would compete with the Soprano's. They finally got enough stones to try one.

Boardwalk Empire does not have the same appeal. It lacks the family and character familiarity of the Soprano's. This show is geared towards Mafia buffs. My wife kept asking me during the first and second episode, who is Arnold Rothstein, Johnny Torrio etc.

Also, forget about accuracy from Hollywood. Luciano was not yet Lucky in those days and you can see that he does not even have the lazy eye or scar.

Good news is that there are many other Mafia type shows in the pipeline to follow if Board walk fails...

hey RD, welcome to the forum. yea im not surprised about how hollywood portrays history.... they seem to have a huge phobia about stickin to facts... i havent seen BE yet, but it seems cool... ive always been interested in the early years of modern organized crime in the tri-state area, especially NYC.... the Sopranos was good, but it kind of lost its spark in my opinion, when it kept focusin on the family, instead of focusin on the "family" more.... they should one day make a series or somethin based exclusively on jewish mobsters or irish mobsters... the italian mobsters genre has been re-heated by hollywood so many times, thats its become stale and overcooked...atleast for me anyway...

Thanks for the welcome Bugsy. I think it would be easy enough to have a series that includes Italian, Irish and Jewish Gangsters. We know the Italians would use Jews as fronts because their last names were not suspicous and the Irish for murder contracts because they would not brag and boast like the Italians.

My buddy in LA told me they have a very interesting "Treatment" they are reviewing right now. It is based on a true story about Sicilian Heroin trafficking. Apparantly it was more prevelant than ever thought. He told me he has about 10-12 names that he never heard of before, but will not tell me the names right now.

The jist of the story is that in the early 1900's Sicliy sent over bosses to take over the American Mafia crews later to become families. The problem was lack of communication "language barrier". That is how front men started, Italian immigrants that spoke both Italian and english would be put in charge even though they were not.

These Sicilians and immigrant front men were very low-key and not affiliated with any particular family. The immigrants had illegal low level fronts like bookmaking, Shylocks, store owners etc. However, according to the story the Sicilians were in charge and were heavy Heroin traffickers but were unknown to most accept for the highest ranking American Gangsters who would not reveal them even to the feds when they went into witness protection.

I will try and prod him for more info...

Last time I went to visit he took me around the studio grounds with a golf cart telling all kinds of stories from the old days. Bugsy was mentioned a lot. Things have not changed much since, there are plenty of Gangsters out their today trying to be movie stars or having a movie done about their lives.

My buddy and I are only in our 40's, so what he was told and passed on to me comes from some old timers. Nothing specific, just that Bugsy would say that it felt like he would have been a better movie star than Gangster and that he enjoyed the California life and celebrity scene and it just felt right. Basically if he could, he would have pursued a movie carreer and left behind the Gangster life. Not sure how true it is because the old timers who knew him are gone. Rumors and hearsay, so who knows if it is true but those are some of the stories...

cool stuff RD, and its probably true. i had read that Siegel allegedly once said "if a midget like E.G. Robinson could play a gangster, then why not the real thing..." so its probably true that his true dream was to become an actor.

Finally got to see BWE! 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
after a million years of waitin, i finally got to see the series. i think its good, it has great actin, great cast and i also love the classy clothes....which what attracts me to this time period. and the violence is very graphic and gory, which is what i love in mob movies. its doesnt glamourize it, it just shows you the violence for how it was and is...

i cant wait for season 2 with Siegel in it.

so what do you guys think of the series so far?
